Saltspring Island Organic Farm…

Yellowpoint landscape

Location: Saltspring Island

Type: Extensive re-design and construction of 5 acre section of property.
Challenges: Heavy soils in existing pasture, reuse excess water from geothermal heating within the landscape, design an organic landscape which will fit in with the farms theme.

Project description: This 100 acre organic farm is situated on Saltspring Island. This working farm had a large pasture area which our client wanted to convert into a communal landscape space. This area was approximately 5 acres in size and had a thick layer of heavy clay soil which posed a challenge. Large drifts of trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses were used to create a naturalistic theme.

Objective: Our client wanted to see a large dry stone wall, several large flagstone patios, a large pond and waterfall, and extensive plantings. After two years of works three stone masons built a 280′ x 8′ high double sided dry stone wall using 500 tons of local stone. The landscape was constructed over a period of three years and is now used to host weddings and community events.
